Over the summer we introduced you to Rugz D. Bewler, Harlem’s most relatable rapper. This fall, we’re glad to introduce his new mixtape, Bené, available now on DJBooth.net. The title of the project refers to the popular movie character, Bené, from the classic indie film City of God, who’s on-screen persona mirrors that of Rugz D. Bewler in real life (minus the violence of course).
The project includes 12 tracks, original beats from notable producers Sean C & LV (credits to Jay-Z, Wale, Fabolous), as well as reinterpretations of tracks by Kanye West (e.g., “OnPoint”), Daft Punk, Pharrell, and J Dilla. In addition, Grammy award-winning poet J. Ivy lends his spoken word talent to the tape as well.
