Hip-hop is hungry, and it shows. “Health conscious is the new black”… I think I read that on a tee-shirt somewhere. We’ve seen some rappers trade their cravings for more consciousness lately. Many were pleasantly surprised to see Fat Joe’s not-so-fat-anymore body, and pictures of a trim Paul Wall almost make him unrecognizable. Even QuestLove is jumping on the slimming hip-hop ship. It’s summertime, so everyone is trying to look their best. So don’t say the car topless dish is tasteless, say Rick Ross’s titties is out the white rice is out. (You’ll get it by the end of the post.)
One of the most recent popular food references comes from a healthy and revitalized Kanye West. The semi-controversial “I Don’t Like (Remix)” features the Louis Vuitton Don co-signing the healthier alternative to white rice.
Rose gold, Jesus piece with the brown ice
Eatin’ good, vegetari with the brown rice.
Eating well, indeed. We must applaud ‘Ye for his conscious effort to avoid white rice, which can lead to Type 2 diabetes.
Childish Gambino has been releasing quality singles leading up to his yet-to-be-titled mixtape. “Black Faces,” his second single, features Nipsey Hussle and a very passionate verse from young Donald. Amidst the lyrics of his second verse, Gambino reveals that “I don’t eat pasta, everything is low carb.” Wise choice, Gambino. Staying away from carbs is pivotal in maintaining a fit body.
Even Yasiin Bey is getting in on the whole food thing (no pun intended). His latest song off of Top 40 Underdog, “Bey,” has a few lines that hits on his culinary habits.
Cool ’em off and out open pie and closed shop
Bey coffee too strong, they can’t sleep well
Up top flow chilly chill freeze help
Brooklyn shoulders broad, eatin’ well and small
Belly forever flat, my motto never wack.
Some say that smaller portions is the path to a healthier diet. Bey is clearly experiencing a better posture from “eatin’ well and small,” as his Brooklyn-born shoulders exhibit a confidence and swag dope enough to never fall to wackness.
