Common done fucked up and used to N-Word on a rap album. Let that one sink in real quick. … Ok.
The incomparable Dr. Maya Angelou is voicing her frustration with Common and their collaborative opening track on Common’s latest and greatest, The Dreamer, The Believer. “’I’m surprised and disappointed,” Angelou said in an interview with the New York Post. “I don’t know why he chose to do that. I had never heard him use that before. I admired him so because he wasn’t singing the line of least resistance.”
Common has reached out in an effort to squash this proverbial beef. The Chi-City rapper said Angelou is aware of his use of the word. Here’s what he had to say about the whole thing.

I told her what ‘The Dreamer’ was about and what I wanted to get across to people. I wanted young people to hear this and feel like they could really accomplish their dreams.
Aside from Angelou’s criticism, this album is ridiculously good.
