]]> Without a doubt, most films and TV shows from previous eras are untouchable and don’t deserve a remake. Lena Waithe and Halle Berry aim to change this perspective with a spin on a classic ’90s romantic comedy.

Both women serve as executive producers to the sequel of  Boomerang. The original film follows womanizer Marcus (Eddie Murphy) meeting his match in the form of Jacqueline Boyer (Robin Givens) before falling in love with the under-looked love interest Angela Graham (Berry’s breakout role in the movie). Instead of going the movie route, Waithe and Berry steered themselves into cable TV territory. Berry tells Variety, the update is “less of a reboot and more of a continuation of the original story.”

Most people recognize Waithe behind her writing role in the “Thanksgiving” episode for Netflix’s “Master of None.” Consequently, Lena continued creative efforts for Showtime’s “The Chi” while landing onscreen roles in “This Is Us”, “Ready Player One”, and more.

The new series follows the lives of Jacqueline’s son and Marcus and Angela’s daughter as they step out of their parents’ shadows to create a lasting legacy of their own.

BET  has picked up Boomerang as a 10-episode series. With no date in sight, the network continues to helm new projects that expand on original programming content.

]]> While Drake‘s Scorpion album is doing numbers on the Billboard music charts, nearly everyone has tried deciphering who “Kiki” is on his song, “In My Feelings.” Not one to stray from tradition, Drake has maintained name dropping previous romantic interests on songs and albums; however, “Kiki” is finally a woman the public has more information about.

Kiki, do you love me? Are you riding?

Say you’ll never ever leave from beside me

‘Cause I want ya, and I need ya

And I’m down for you always

According to Genius, the aforementioned Kiki assumed in the song was Keshia Chanté, former 106 & Park co-host and love interest from his teenage years. While it’s a sensible theory leading to Kiki’s true identity, the next few lyrics wouldn’t match up with Chanté’s initials:

KB, do you love me?

Say you’ll never ever leave from beside me?

K’yanna Barber, an Oakland native, is actually the “Kiki”/KB in question. Her previous love connection with Drake dates back from 2016. Barber was spotted at a show of his in which she became romantically linked to Drake last October; however, the two called it quits shortly afterwards. Barber’s Twitter handle @4thaloveofKJ hints to the hit song being revolved around her:

K’yanna is known for an Oakland collective on YouTube called the “Hyphy Hoochies.” Her and Drake’s current standing is currently unknown; nevertheless, we don’t have to worry about who KB/Kiki is anymore.

]]> Earlier this week, Chance the Rapper celebrated the the fourth of July and freaked it (*Kendrick Lamar “King’s Dead” ad-lib). On the day most people in the United States seem to hate the most, Chance made sure to make the holiday a memorable one: by proposing to his long-time girlfriend and baby’s mother, Kirsten Corley. According to ABC 7 Chicago, Chance and Kirsten broke it off while quietly dealing with a custody battle of their 2-year-old daughter, Kinsley but made up by deciding to “put their child first.”

Surrounded by loved ones at a barbecue, Chance alluded to the proposal with this tweet:

Here’s video footage of the proposal, in which Chance asked, “Will you make me a man and be my wife?”

A “fan”  responded negatively about the proposal and Chano wasn’t having it. Chance exchanged tweets and even went as far as to personally DM the person disapproving of his proposal efforts. Calling another person’s heartfelt moment with their significant other “hot smelly trash” isn’t cool at all, but did he have a point or did Chance do no wrong with his proposal? The hit crime-drama ‘Power’ will be back on STARZ July 1st. The season four finale showed us an unlikely alliance between 50 Cent’s Kanan, Omari Hardwick‘s Ghost, and Joseph Sikora‘s Tommy. According to Entertainment Weekly, Courtney Kemp, the super-producer behind this powerhouse series, has promised season 5 will be the “most hard-hitting season yet.”

Furthermore, season 5 will pick-up the aftermath of Ghost’s son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) murdering the undercover cop who fatally shot his sister Raina. Cue the memes and Internet jokes detailing heartbroken fans after her death.

Kemp also teased the new season opening up with three questions: “How does Tariq get out of this, and is Tasha going to go down? And what is in plain sight that everyone is going to ignore?”

Although both have separate professions, Cardi B and Chadwick Boseman are currently lighting up their respective industries. The Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War actor has captured everyone’s heart as T’Challa, the hero-king of Wakanda; meanwhile, Cardi B has been everywhere music and pop culture are intertwined.

There’s A First Time For Everything

Wakanda person won’t be interested in seeing these two talents be on Saturday Night Live? Initially, the announcement of a Chadwick and Cardi team-up was made during this past Saturday’s (March 17) live broadcast, which featured former cast member Bill Hader as host.

Naturally, Boseman will host and Cardi will step in as musical guest. Check out Cardi’s reaction to the news from her Instagram below. Fingers crossed that both will appear in a sketch together!

]]> Happy New Year everyone! Three days into 2018, and two big name music festivals have released their artist line-ups for their spring and summer shows. Music festivals come and go, but two of the greatest festivals out there are Coachella and Governor’s Ball.

Last year, she was pregnant with twins. This year she’s one of three major Coachella headliners. Beyoncé is back like she never left. Fresh off the heels of his latest album Revival, Eminem will headline The Governor’s Ball in addition to Coachella. The Weeknd will also join forces with Em and Bey at Coachella’s Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Mark your calendars for April 13-15 and April 20-22. Check the full line-up below.

Returning to Randall’s Island Park in New York City, The Governors Ball Music Festival will be June 1st-3rd. Travis Scott is headlining while other notable artists include N.E.R.D., 2 Chainz, DRAM, BROCKHAMPTON, Khalid, and several others. The poster below details more Governor’s Ball artists. ]]> The R&B duo of Daniel Daley and producer Nineteen85—better known as Dvsn (pronounced “division”)– will be bringing “The Morning After” to a city after near you. Fresh off releasing their sophomore album of the same name, the OVO-affiliated group will bring the heat live with their singles from Morning After such as “P.O.V.”, “Mood”, and “Don’t Choose.”

The tour will begin January 21st in Vancouver. From there, it’ll stretch across North America touching major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and more. They’ll pick back up the tour early March running thru London, Paris, and Amsterdam just to name a few additional European stops.
