When we think of the Bay Area, we often think about low riders, nice views, hyphy music, and a number of other things. Right now the area is witnessing a rise and a downfall at the same time. Noisey has documented the rising hip-hop scene and extremely high volume of police brutality happening in the Bay Area of California. The documentary all came together with the help of G-Eazy, E-40, and residents of the Bay Area and it’s local artists,
The Bay Area gave birth to the self defending Black Panthers organization in the 1960’s. Thirty years later the Bay Area delivered legendary hip-hop great, Tupac to us. An area of such great diversity is now the headquarters for companies such as Facebook, Twitter, and even Google. With the new “cooperate” changes to the area also came a high rocketing price for the cost of living as well as expensive real estate. Making the Bay Area one of the most expensive regions in the United States to live in right now.
Watching the documentary being filmed around Vallejo, Berkeley, Oakland, San Fransisco, and other neighboring cities we get to witness the changes that now exist in the Bay Area. We get to witness actual police arrests that are suspicious, unnecessary, and random. We get to watch how peaceful protests are took place on major highways right in the middle of Oakland and in front of the Oakland Police Department. We get to see local artist perform in packed out areas and discuss the rise of hip-hop artist from the Bay Area.
