After learning a bit about Votte Hall, it seems apparent that Hall is a person who could offer many pointers to less experienced individuals who seek to embark on a similar journey that he had. Hall is no stranger to neither success nor failure as an artist of today’s music industry. He has written original songs which have been played on the radio, and one of his songs reached the billboard top 20. Votte Hall’s “Kiss On Me” received the billboard success, and it was even the most popular song in Brazil for a period of time.
Hall decided to offer some advice to younger artists who may not have the best game plan in place to tackle the industry. He admits to losing approximately $30,000 from making poor investments, and many people have taken advantage of him in the past. Hall implores young artists to never spend money if they do not have a plan. Artists should invest in themselves because nobody else will if they haven’t already, but artists should be extremely careful when accepting money from people because that money always has to be paid back. It’s important for artists to understand that advances from record labels never represent money that the artist has officially earned.
Also, Hall stresses the insignificance of an artist’s attempt to only work with people that have established a big name for themselves in the industry. The names of the people you decide to work with are much less important now than they were roughly a decade ago, and artists must focus primarily on the quality of their work. Not everything aligned with an artist’s name has to be perfected, but an artist’s product must always look and sound good. Hall explains that young artists often times get the wrong impressions about their products. For example, decent photos are more the result of good work on the graphic designers behalf as opposed to angles and locations of the pictures taken themselves. Additionally, the quality sound of good music should be accredited to the engineer rather than the producer. It is essentially important that an artist builds a strong team around his or herself; therefore, the artist can focus on the sole task of supplying vocals. Hall has implemented multiple individuals on his team to make sure that one person handles his promotions, one person provides his wardrobe, and so on. An artist focusing on too many factors that are secondary to the music itself can only lead to excess time and energy consumed on the journey to success.
