Looking at any Instagram Influencer, it’s tempting to assume that not much work goes into accounts. They surely lead lives of pure fun, ease, joy, and comfort, right? If it looks like that, it means their work behind the account has worked. An account that’s fun doesn’t mean there isn’t any work involved to gain their robust followings. Getting thousands of followers on Instagram and other social media platforms takes work and the knowledge on how can mean a lot of marketing and publicity success. What’s key? Choosing a theme that you’re interested in, and staying true to that theme.
When it comes to Social Media marketing, the one and only place you need to look is with Dylan DeGennaro Dylan, who is only 20 years old and is a fulltime student at Quinnipiac University, is the social media mastermind behind seven accounts. This includes Rapmusic, which has over three million followers and is Instagram’s second-largest rap-themed account. Combined with his other five accounts, Dylan has around 7 million followers. With his innate understanding of marketing, Dylan has become a social media marketing guru and growth hacker. And it all began in 2015.
In 2015, he started with an account with a football theme. Why football? It was something he had a strong interest in, and curating content for it was something he enjoyed to do. He quickly gained a following close to 300 thousand. Dylan then decided to change things up a bit, and instead of starting a new page, he simply completely changed the theme. It became a motivational page, which pushed his following to 700 thousand.
Even though it initially made the account grow, he saw the page plateau off. Ever the re-imaginar, Dylan changed the theme yet again, this time to Freestyles, a rap-themed page. With this, he quickly bypassed 1m followers and went on to over three million followers. The name has changed to Rapmusic, with the content exclusively related to rap, and he now works with a variety of rap artists. Again, this is a topic that Dylan is interested in: so it’s actually enjoyable to search for and post content. Dylan believes that social media accounts can be powerful tools for any company, especially online businesses.
Dylan says that choosing a theme, ideally, one that you are actually interested in, is key to success. With a theme, it is clear to your followers the type of content they will be getting. It’s also a way to establish a connection with your followers, which is important for any type of business strategy. He also says that hashtags are super important. This goes back to the theme: choosing hashtags that are closely tied to your theme. Picking the wrong hashtag or one that is irrelevant to your theme can mean bad news, quickly. People want to follow that of which they are interested in – a misleading or inappropriate hashtag won’t lead to more growth.
Dylan also advises keeping your social media account name simple and short. Collaborating and building relationships with similar accounts by tagging each other helps build followers, as well as staying current with trends and the news. Sharing viral videos, with the owner’s permission, also accelerates growth.
