All the time, you hear about how you should be yourself when creating art, how your creation should represent you and be unique. At the same time, however, you are greeted by an overly stale industry that does not really want to see a unique, exciting new artist, but rather more of the same thing.
This is true about any industry, be it publishing, acting, or indeed, music. There is, in the words of Arden B, a stagnant sound. So, you might be wondering, how do you grow, then? How can you be your unique, unapologetic self in an industry that wants you to emulate someone else?
Arden B is a rap, R&B and hip-hop independent artist from Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. He records, writes, and raps his own material, and on occasion, he creates lifestyle content. He is, in other words, a man intent on bettering himself and growing through his music.
He is a man who sees the good in being your most authentic self, and values creativity and uniqueness over popularity. As a musician, he wants to grow, and wants his music to reach as many people as possible, but not at the cost of his creative independence. And yet, he somehow manages to do it, which is why we think you should listen to him.
“Create your music and better your craft. There is no rush. Great things take time, and always believe that you can do anything you put your mind to. Your mind is your greatest asset,” he says almost immediately, when we ask him what advice he’d give young artists.
He also touched on the importance of creativity in a “stagnant” music scene, and how being a creator allows him to change the industry for the better, although it can be difficult at times.
“That’s the great thing about being a creator. You’re part of creating how the industry sounds on every level, no matter how big or small you are. You create the art for the industry.”
A man with a kind heart and an overall positive outlook on the industry, Arden B is excited rather than worried about what is to come. At the moment, he is working hard for the upcoming release of his second EP, entitled “Fully Invested”, sometime later this year, and also preparing a music video to accompany that.
He is hard-working and determined not to lose sight of his vision and what makes him unique as an artist. Seeing clearly that sometimes the industry can be reluctant to embrace change, he is determined to usher in that change, nevertheless.
Arden B is, in other words, paving the way for a whole new music era, one that promised to be exciting, to say the least. Bringing about an interesting combination of rap, hip-hop and R&B, Arden B is not a man to tie himself down to one style, but rather interested in exploring his own vision and growing as a musician.
