Growing up out of Southside Atlanta, Lavish Kiddo has proven that he is the product of Atlanta. He is known for his catchy flow with a twist of his own style. Kiddo released his mixtape, Death B4 Dishonor, as it relates to the people who surrounded him that switched up on him. The “Glock” artist made it known that nothing negative should be around him when it comes to his music. We caught up with the “Dope Boy” artist and discussed the makings of his mixtape, Death B4 Dishonor, “Dope Boy” music visual and more.
RESPECT.: What made you name yourself Lavish Kiddo?
I named myself Lavish because it’s the status of my life that I’m trying to get to. I didn’t want to say rich. I put Kiddo behind it because I’m young. I didn’t want to put “Lil” or “Young” before my name either.
RESPECT.: With what is going on in the world, police brutality, racism, riots and etc., what are your thoughts about all of what is happening?
I had a feeling the world was going to come to this; because I knew police brutality wasn’t stopping. They weren’t getting the right consequences for their actions. These were one of those things where it’s going to be ugly before it gets better.
RESPECT.: You know we are celebrating Juneteenth next Friday, what are some things that you will be doing for the holiday?
One time for Juneteenth, the family and I went to the Civil Rights Memorial Center in Alabama. We usually watch movies that recognizes black success.
RESPECT.: With your mixtape, ‘Death B4 Dishonor,’ why did you come up with the name and what did you want the message to come out as?
I named my project, Death B4 Dishonor, because it’s has been plenty of people that were close to me that switched up. Some people hung around me for the wrong reason and stop believing in me.
RESPECT.: As this is your second project dropping after the first one in August 2019, will you be releasing a project later on in the year?
Yes, I plan on releasing four more projects this year. With the last one, my album will be dropping in December.
RESPECT.: Lets go back to the project, Product of Atlanta, when you called your mixtape that, were you the Product of Atlanta?
I am the Product of Atlanta. I have been everywhere in Atlanta and listen to plenty Atlanta artists. We are known for having a catchy flow and style. So in the ‘Product of Atlanta’ project, you will hear very catchy sayings that came from Atlanta and flows that I sauced up.
RESPECT.: Since most of us are quarantined, what were you doing in this midst of a pandemic?
During this pandemic, I just been in my basement recording music, so I won’t get behind. I am also attend Georgia Southern, so I’ve been doing online classes as well.
RESPECT.: “Dope Boy” visual from the recent mixtape, tell us your vision behind it by making the visual.
With the “Dope Boy” video, my director and I wanted everything to be very raw; so that’s how we picked the scenes in the video. That’s also why we didn’t add many edits.
RESPECT.: By living in Atlanta, on the Southside, do you think the music scene has changed in over the last decade?
Yeah I do think it has changed, but not in a bad way though. Everything is elevating each day. New flows has been discovered, and many artists are making a lane for themselves.
RESPECT.: What is next for Lavish Kiddo?
Well, I’m finishing up my next tape. I’m also about to drop some more visuals from Death B4 Dishonor. Lastly, I’m about to start up my own clothing line because I like fashion and always wanted to try opening up my own line.
