Fashion designer Khalil Walthour plays a pivotal role in disrupting our ordinary wardrobe with the latest street wear essentials. Walthour’s latest collection consists of cross-body messenger bags and two sport tracksuit options in fuego red and Nipsey blue which are all engineered in high quality performance fabrics. Now Walthour speaks with us about the back end of Cidenna and the Cidenna sports capsule.
On the inspiration for Cidenna designs:
I get most of my inspiration from athletes and hip hop music artist such as Odell Beckham, Iman Shumpert, Teyana Taylor, Nicki Minaj and many more. As we all know the athletic and hip-hop industry impacts our style culture in such a huge and unique way. When I design I think about the common day workaholic, those who are always on the go whether it’s a 9-5 job, jumping from business meeting to business meeting or from the concert stage to the after party. While keeping all that in mind I represent that in my designs by making it comfortable to wear while being stitched in high-end Luxury materials and fabrics.
On running a global street wear label and its challenges:
Running a global brand has honestly changed my life. Knowing that I can provide something to someone and make their day makes me happy. What goes on behind the scenes is the fun and stressful part from coming up with an idea, drawing sketches, choosing fabric, talking with manufactures, cutting patterns, production, choosing models, shooting the photo shoots, launching the releases and ending with passing out on the floor haha. I cherish these moments because the hard work is definitely paying off. The biggest struggle has to be keeping a huge quantity in stock as Cidenna tends to sell-out a lot. Knowing that there’s a customer out there who wants our products but can no longer purchase it because it’s not in stock honestly stresses me out. Selling-out also has it perks because it goes to show how many people are out there that are supporting my brand which then makes me rejoice, it’s really a dope feeling.
On the style of products that are created at Cidenna:
Simple made luxury which is our slogan. Something that’s not doing the most but still making the most noise. Luxury fabrics in simple colors to match anything in your wardrobe.
