New Jersey-native Dolla$ignDunn gives us the green-light today to exclusively premiere his new single “Lighthouse” featuring Sir Michael Rocks. Sir Michael Rocks is a underground veteran, best known as a member of ‘The Cool Kids‘ and various other groups. The two emcees perfectly compliment each other on the Versus Beats / 8een produced cut.
“I tapped Sir Michael Rocks for the feature verse because he emulates all the fly s**t I represent as an artist. I knew our styles would mesh well together. I actually almost didn’t even record this song. One night I was in the studio working really late and the beat came on. Everyone else was asleep but the I started writing and just felt the energy. I recorded by verse and knew this was a special one.”
Through-out his verse, Dunn speaks on the importance of teaching his little brother the important of working towards what you want. The hook is also inspired by one of his favorite rappers, the “Wave God,” Max B.
“Where I’m from, there aren’t many people to teach us the rights and wrongs of life. So I learned by trial and error. All the game I speak to my lil homies in real life, I then translate well into my verses. I also named the song “Lighthouse” because they over-look the waves. Ships navigate their direction based on the location of the lighthouse. I correlated that with how people look towards us who are making the waves for direction. Hence, the lighthouse / Max B reference.”
“Lighthouse” will appear on Dunn’s forthcoming project, “One Bad Day,” which is slated for release this year. This will serve as a follow-up to his impressive, 2018 effort, “Sign Language.”
