RESPECT.: What’s the motivation and inspiration behind the the label “Stackin Up Entertainment”?
GB: It all started when I, Gregory 64 Brown was 4 years old looking at my pop Dj Skeet on the 1’s and 2’s playing Smokey Robinson, The Beatles, all the way to Dr. Dre, The Chronic. I’ve always wanted to get on the mic when they used to freestyle, but they told me I was too young. As I got older, I used to freestyle in front of the mirror while making beats on the walls while my mom and pop was at work. Then I got my first CD & Tape player for Christmas and recorded my first song, “Don’t play with me,” on my player. Attending college at Norfolk State University with a major in Mass Communications and a Minor in Music Technology completing 4,000 unpaid hours of recording in the same studio Pharrell Williams used to sneak in to create at NSU as well as producing for talent. Getting the name 64 came from going back in forth from Richmond to Norfolk working with talent rocking the East & West. All of these milestones in my life inspired as well as motivated me to create the label Stackin Up Entertainment LLC.
RESPECT.: How much easier is the independent route with distribution?
GB: If you do not know the music business, plan strategically, and have a solid team of winners around you, a major distribution deal can be very challenging for you so I recommend educating yourself as well as associate yourself around business minded individuals. We also partner with key companies like Close Connects LLC when it comes to bringing in talent and marketing artist on VEVO/YouTube.
RESPECT.: Who is the current roster of the label?
GB: We currently have President, King Hanz, and VP, Uneek Int, a part of our foundation. We currently have single deals with Matt Movin, Fionn Roberts, Saba West, Dirty Denimz, Tha Day, Jennifer Messina, and Mick Merkury.
RESPECT.: What’s your vision for the label of the next few years?
GB: Our goal is to make sure we are more active in our community to raise awareness and add more value to our community. We also thought about getting a commercial building in the near future as well as have classes to teach kids engineering, music production, and let the youth know that you do not have to be a doctor or lawyer to become successful. We will also want to raise grant money to get the youth in schools to explore their career passion in the music industry.
RESPECT.: Why Virginia as the hub for the label?
GB: I was born and raised in the capitol, Richmond, Virginia so I decided to make it that.
RESPECT.: What’s in the works after acquiring the empire deal?
GB: We are looking to form our own award shows in the near future as well as well as partner with Non Profit Organizations to give back as well as be actively involved in our community. We are looking for serious artist with a marketing budget who is willing to take their career to the next level as well. Our VP Uneek Int & President King Hanz of Stackin Up Entertainment LLC are always scouting talent of all genres.
RESPECT.: What’s the mission of the label?
GB: Stackin Up Entertainment mission is continuous growing culture, building relationships. confidence, maintain professionalism with longevity in the music industry.
RESPECT.: Is the label meant to protect the artist?
GB: It’s definitely a label that stands for protecting the artist and making sure the right decisions are being made without changing the artist creativity.
RESPECT.: What does your label look like with 20/20 vision?
GB: Stackin Up Entertainment LLC are still managing to find ways to be creative in the music industry due to COVID-19. I, Gregory 64 Brown will say that this is the time to go hard for what you want to do because once everything open back up, you don’t want to be twenty steps behind.
RESPECT.: Any upcoming plans as far as artist projects, what can we expect?
GB: To stay updated with any upcoming projects, visuals, or shows, go to www.stackinupent.com. We have so much fire on the way it’s not even funny, from Hip Hop all the way to POP.
RESPECT.: What does RESPECT. mean to you?
GB: RESPECT. means staying down with your team and bringing up individuals who put forth the effort into their craft each and every day. Growing up, RESPECT meant be obedient to your family and peers. You don’t have to like me but you have to respect me. RESPECT also mean respect the OG’s in the game that came before you.
