OKQ is from the bottom. He is well known in his community and slowly rising to heights he never expected. Not only within the rap world, he’s also shedding light on the world he comes from. His story can not be compared to many, at the age of 26 he has been through more pain than people twice his age. He grew up in the streets and in a group home. OKQ has decided he wants to shape the world in his image. He favorite quote is ” even though I grew up unfortunate & without a big family or father, I want to show people that don’t determine your outcome in life”. We had a chance go cath up with OKQ for an exclusive interview.
Interview
Who Is OKQ?
OKQ is a real one from the streets of Stone Mountain GA. He’s all about modesty and being yourself no matter the situation. Im all about genuine stuff being real getting respect for not ever changing up on what I believe. Ya feel me ? I want to be the person who shows people you can be cool and still do what you like. Don’t think cuz you like something different from everybody else that makes u less a of a man. Naw enjoy it be great at what your passionate about!
Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia who did you see yourself becoming?
I honestly always saw myself becoming OKQ and no one else. I knew I had a message to get across to my people. Only I could spread it, because nobody is willing to take the heat of being different. But I am!
Who were your influences?
Growing up its hard to say who influenced me because everything wasn’t so accessible. I would definitely say I was more inspired by the older crowds. And now that I’m older I get a lot of inspiration from Jcole , Joyner Lucas , Kendrick Lamar & My Artist Sleepy Headd.
How did u first get introduced to HipHop/Rap?
I mean honestly it kind of just happened I always knew I had a voice I just never knew how to get it to everyone. My bro Gwalla Man Dash was rapping at the time and I was kind of always just backing him up. Then one day I was thinking maybe I should give it a shot. A lot of people won’t understand me because I’m so diverse but I believed it was worth try.
What new projects are you working on?
Currently I just dropped a crazy video called Home Invasion. I have a single out Titled Trap Friends Ft Sleepy Headd. Im planning on releasing a new mixtape later on this year as well as many new songs & videos. For now I’m just mastering my craft perfecting greatness.
What does the word respect mean to you?
Without respect we wouldn’t be able to define different people. Respect is everything to me. I gotta few homies who passed who made sure they died with their respect. No matter how much money you got if nobody respects you when its all gone it was worth nothing. I feel respect goes way longer than a dollar bill.
