The music industry constantly changes, but one thing that will always remain, are labels. Even though labels [especially major], have a bad stigma about them,
they will always be revered and necessary. With that being said, I’d like to introduce to you, one of today’s fastest rising labels, O.U.R. Brand Music Label, Inc.
Founded in 2016 by RaShawn Russell, Sean Bryant Jr., and Michelle Tooles, the company continues to show nothing but promise with each coming release.
We had to the pleasure of speaking with one of the CEOs, RaShawn Russell for an exclusive Q+A. He discussed the label’s beginnings, their current roster, upcoming releases, future endeavors and much more.
Check it out below and be sure to get familiar with one of rising powerhouses of the industry!
Q: Tell us about the beginnings of O.U.R., and how it all was started.
Russell: “The label was founded by Sean Bryant Jr., Michelle Tooles and I in 2016. Sean, who is also our in-house producer, PacoTheProducer, wanted to get his beats heard more by others.
He wasn’t as business savvy at the time, so he came to me for help knowing I wouldn’t let anyone take advantage of him. We were already good friends with Flood Dawg (one of our artists) from playing NBA 2k with him.
We then found out he was an artist himself, and he too, wanted to begin releasing music. After a few talks, we discovered we all had the same dreams and ideas about how we wanted to impact the music business,
and that’s how O.U.R Brand Music Label was essentially started.
A few months after making ‘OBM’ official, we released Flood Dawg’s debut EP, “Perfect Timing.”
Seeing how great the project did for an unknown artist, collectively we came together to talk about expansion,
and looking into other artists. That’s when Brazy Brandon and Tay Y.U.N.G came along. The rest is history..”
Q; What was the idea behind the label’s name?
Russell: “(O)ppurunity. (U)nity. (R)espect. Furthermore, collectively we wanted a name that reflected our views, and one that we could help cater to all genres of music — not placed within a box of one type of sound. We believe all the artists we sign
[and future signees] all have their own unique style that they bring to the table, and it’s “OUR” job to help them get heard by the masses!”
Q: Aside from who you already stated, who else is signed to the imprint?
Russell: “Yea so I already named Flood Dawg, Brazy Brandon and Tay Y.U.N.G. We also have John Relo, Liam LA Adams, and 2CraZ. All extremely talented so remember the names!”
Q: What upcoming releases can fans expect from your roster?
Russell: “Brazy Brandon just released his new single “I’m The Man” featuring Bobby Krea. Be sure to go stream that across all DSPs.
Right now, we’re finishing up the compilation album with everyone. It’s sounding absolutely great, and were I’m looking to have that out by April. We also have John Relo’s new project coming soon, which is still untitled.
Flood Dawg has his “Emotions Running High” album coming very soon.
The debut single for 2craz is scheduled for April / May. Liam also has a few singles to complete that will arrive around the same time. And last,
but not least, Tay Y.U.N.G has a record called “Slide,” that’s definitely about to come out. It’s a real Cali vibe… he also has a few singles following up through-out the year.
As you can see our next few months are about to be real busy so stay tuned!”
Q: What does the future hold for O.U.R Brand Music Label, Inc.?
Russell: “Well, we’re going to continue working as always and getting the releases I just stated, out to the fans. And really, I just want my artists and label to become a household name. I want my current artists [and future ones]
the opportunity to just be heard and seen. I also want to have mostly everything “in-house” — I believe you have to build a positive team.
Personnel wise, it’s still just me, Sean Bryant Jr. (PacoTheProducer), and Michelle running everything, with the addition of a few others.
Not only are we a label, but we consider everyone involved as family”
