What is your name and what city do you rep?
Rookie2x: “I rep the Ville (Leesville, La), some call me Rook and the rest Rookie2x.”
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
Rookie2x: “My latest release was “System.” It was the last, but most successful song I dropped under B.O.$. “System” told three different stories that’d make the hair on your arms stand up. But all around, Dope track.”
What is unique about you and your music?
Rookie2x: “I feel I’m not your average rapper. Most rappers ABC rap. Which is fine. It sells. My punch lines and metaphors will have you replaying a song 300 times.”
What shaped your music?
Rookie2x: “Heartache, disloyal people around me, pops leaving and feeling hated at home. I could go on for days…”
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
Rookie2x: “Since my first release, and watching the whole city “hate,” but continuously play my music. I love analytics, especially when I see the ones who hate, was my top listeners.”
What type of music do you listen to?
Rookie2x: “All music, just not that heavy screaming stuff. Y’all can keep that. But I like all genres.”
What inspires you to write music?
Rookie2x: “Rookie2x no longer write. I go into my home studio, and pour my heart bar for bar. Former Rookie was inspired to write for acceptance and approval. I can’t force the people to listen. But I do have freedom of speech, and I accept and approve of my music. Same talk, I just removed the filter and let out the pain.”
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
Rookie2x: “To be honest, it’s really: family first, then music. It used to be music and the rest will work. I was self centered and digging a hole. If I’m not working on my music, I’m building my brand. Rookie2x didn’t hit the scene until December 3, 2019, and its only up from here.”
Happiness to you is…
Rookie2x: “Happiness to me is wanting it.. I’m happy on the inside. But it’s hard to smile, hard for me to have fun. But I’m coming around, and faster then I ever imagined. My happiness, is seeing my wife and kids happy. What more can you want!”
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
Rookie2x: “Nothing, because my full time engineer, RhymeKing, told me at the jump. “Bro, listen to me. Solo, your dope bro, and groups don’t make it anymore. Just be solo bro.” So from him to me – and me to you. Stay away from groups. It’s alright to have dudes with you that rap. But make it for you first, and chalk the door when you open it for them.”
Tell us about your upcoming projects…
Rookie2x: “Man, my upcoming project is CRAZY. My Ep/Album, Calm Before Tha Storm, is packed with 7 FIRE songs. I have Famous R&B singer Damar Jackson, and well known Luci, Jordanlivingood, and my blood brother Shousupreme. Since I dropped the sneak-peek I’ve been offered: endorsement deals, management deals, merch deals, and free jewelry. I’m unsure if its from the lane I pave with B.O.$. Or if I’m really just going that hard now. And I literally never even released a song yet. Just sneakpeeks. I wasn’t going to speak on this, but for y’all I will. I’m dropping a single from the album April 18th. Stay tuned.”
Any last words for the readers?
Rookie2x: “Yes, if you got a goal. REACH IT. Don’t let the world hold you back with negativity. If you make a goal and don’t reach it, it was just an idea. If you believe in what you doing, then you won’t have to convince the world to. What’s understood don’t have to be explained. Don’t give up. And it’s crucial to Invest in yourself. If you don’t, don’t expect nobody else to.”
