Thinking about undergoing a hair makeover for the last remaining winter weeks? Whatever style you’re considering, who better to seek inspiration from than the man dubbed as UAE’s ‘hair magician’ – celebrity hairstylist and makeover specialist Rafi Kouyoumjian.
If you spot a new hair trend being followed by celebrities, influencers, and people alike, then chances are Kouyoumjian’sbehind it. The hair makeover specialist, also a pioneering colorist, has been tending to A-listers’ striking strands for over a decade, but his ever-evolving choices, styles, and techniques keep him relevant and most-coveted. Irrespective of who it is, Rafi affirms that hair entails heavy maintenance, and so, having a good haircare routine is of utmost importance. His favorite and go-to products for stressed-out hair are olive oil, coconut oil, and lavender essential oil. Rafi’s experience indicates that a gentle massage with any of these oils relinks the hair’s broken bonds and prevents breakage or further damage.
Rafi is often seen suggesting his clients some of the golden rules of good hair care, and first to top the list is not skipping breakfast. He believes, skipping breakfast deprives the hair of essential nutrient boost and diverts energy away, resulting in hair shedding and thinning. The other few tips in his list include protecting hair from UV, air drying hair, brushing gently, investing in good-quality products, avoiding strong detergent shampoos, nourishing body with vitamins, and lastly, choosing hair tools wisely. He also adds, “besides implementing the rules above, it’s important to be consistent. The foremost secret to keeping hair healthy and in good condition is maintenance. Find good products and stick to a routine that works for you. Avoid overloading your hair with creams and serums, and don’t deviate too much.”
For the clients who are new to his work or are first-timers, he recommends booking a consultation before undergoing hair transformation or treatment at his salon. The reason he states for this is a better comfort level with the hairstylist and a deeper understanding of the process before doing anything serious. “Hair is, without a doubt, a big deal for all of us – and clients should feel satisfied when spending hard-earned money on it. If the consultation goes well, the client is bound to come back with another appointment for a hair makeover, styling, cut, or color,” he adds.
Besides being a hair expert, Rafi is also an ardent social media influencer. With several thousands of followers on Instagram alone, he has mastered the skill of engaging his audience with interesting stories, makeover posts, and hair color transformations on his feed. On several occasions, he also unveils a few tips and tricks along with the right products to use for hair care for his virtual family to know. Very evidently, besides his expertise and unique style, his advice, personal stories, and words of encouragement have helped him cement his position among loyal followers both online as well as offline.
