Pomona, Ca. rapper DB800 puts his loyalties before the royalties. Seeing some friends turn to strangers, he believes that success and respect comes from within as he tries to be example of that with the lessons that he’s learned en route to the path. He recently released his new single “N**gaz Fake” exemplifying what seems to be a last of a dying breed and that’s in love and loyalty.
RESPECT.: Where are you from?
DB800: Pomona, Ca. We’re 30 miles east of Los Angeles. Still Los Angeles County though.
RESPECT.: What comes first the loyalty or the royalties?
DB800: Loyalty. Without loyalty, you have nothing. First you must be loyal to yourself and those you consider a part of your circle. If you can’t be loyal to that then when the money come you’ll always be lookin over your shoulder.
RESPECT.: What’s the hardest part about success?
DB800: I believe the hardest part of success is productively interacting with society and being able to cope with the pressures of being successful.
RESPECT.: You recently released “Ni**az F*ke” w/ Jonny Cash what do you keep closer to you, your friends or your enemies?
DB800: Definitely my friends. People who consider themselves my enemies I don’t have to worry about them. I know who they are and deal with them accordingly but my friends and people that I consider my family are the ones that I monitor close. I’ve been through more unexpected situations when trusting people I considered friends and family then I’ve ever had to with a so-called enemy. It’s always the one closes to you who will cross you.
RESPECT.: Do you feel it’s easier to see what’s for you before or after you’re doing good?
DB800: Sh*t that’s a tough one because before you doing good you may have some people that claim they’re down with what you got going on but can be only concerned with your success because they see the potential and the work you’ve actually put in. Then when your actually doing good your always going to have the people who want to be around for your celebrations of success, so really it’s all how you choose to perceive each situation
RESPECT.: How did we miss the lesson about loyalty and how did we miss our mark to teach the new generation?
DB800: Me personally, I never missed the mark on loyalty. That’s what I build my whole life around. That’s why I’m where I am today. I’ve always believed that if you consider someone a friend or even family then you owe it to them to give them support in what they choose to do and always be down for each other’s common cause, by any means necessary. This new generation lacks morals and structure. Everyone wants to be the chief and no one wants to be an indian. What I mean by that is everyone wants to be in charge but no one wants to work to be in that position. So the best thing that we can do as elders to the new generation is reach them through setting examples and explaining the benefits of following a structure to succeed.
RESPECT.: Would you rather be feared of loved?
DB800: I’d rather be loved. We have too much chaos in the world already. I rather be at peace and successful then to have to worry about a person doing something to me out of fear and not being able to enjoy what I’m destined to enjoy, life.
RESPECT.: Any upcoming projects that you’re working on?
DB800: Yeah, actually I’m five unreleased projects in as of now. The most relevant one being a collaboration album I did with my good friend and producer Jonny Cash entitled “800 Ways To Get Cash” but I’m always working man. I love doing what I do and that’s music.
RESPECT.: What’s do you have in store for 2020?
DB800: For this year I plan on dropping “800 Ways To Get Cash” and just focusing on marketing and promotion. I also plan on dropping my first line of clothing for the summer so I’ll keep you guys updated with that. Other then that just doing shows and building a larger fan base.
RESPECT.: What does RESPECT. mean to you?
DB800: Respect to me is to care about someone opinions and well being. It’s treating people with common courtesy. It’s also showing gestures of peace when greeting some one and interacting in a positive manner as long as the feelings are reciprocated.
