South Carolina native Lafayette Stokley has released a new single titled “What They Say”. Heavily influenced by J. Cole, Nas, and Jay Electronica, his authentic sound carries out throughout this entire project. His deep lyrical prose and an excellent beat choice are two reasons why this release is a masterpiece.
What They Say, is right on time for the fall. On this release, you hear Stokley spitting some of his most prolific and woke bars. Some notable lyrics from this song include “they just hear to milk you they not here to help”. These bars reference the way that the music industry takes advantage of artists.
His rawness and honesty carries out throughout this entire release. The most impressive thing about “What They Say” is the way Stokley is able to consciously talk about a sensitive subject and make it relatable for his audience.
His confidence and raw passion carries this record to new heights. Now, with over 30+ releases of songs, freestyles, and visuals for #StokelySundays, Lafayette is gearing up for his new project, In Due Time. It is scheduled to be released in Spring 2020, and will feature his latest single “What They Say”.
