Teenear gives us how she likes it with her buzzing single “I Like It” with Quality Control artist Lil’ Baby. She has come full force, as the label Slip-N-Slide Records, has her back. As the Miami native makes a way up in the charts, she is perfecting her craft every step of the way. We caught up with Teenear and talked about the concept of the video, her experience at the BET Awards and more.
RESPECT.: How did you and Lil’ Baby come about the single?
The single was recorded a while back. We couldn’t think of anyone specifically, but we weren’t rushing and one day not only my sister but someone, on my team, as well mentioned Lil’ Baby and the label reached out to him and he did it within the next two days.
RESPECT.: With the visual to the summer hit single, it reminds me of Beyonce’s “Blow” visual, in which it is so inspiring to watch, was that the concept to go about it? What was your idea?
This song gave me a chance to experiment with a lot of different fun scenes, bright colors and fashionable looks! I was definitely inspired by Beyonce’s Blow video. When connecting with the director Damian Fyffe, we were able to put our ideas together and he brought it to life.
RESPECT.: Will there be an album on the way? Can you tell us more info on that?
There will be an EP. My team and I are working on it as we speak. My supporters can expect it to be released next year.
RESPECT.: I had seen that you went to the BET Awards this year, tell me your goals or experience while being there?
It was a fun experience, I definitely went into that not knowing what to expect. I was able to meet a few icons such as Big Tigger, LaLa, Simone Biles, etc. Seeing people I would like to collaborate with perform was amazing and I can’t wait to be able to get a chance to perform next year.
RESPECT.: Define RESPECT.
Respect to me is a mutual understanding of another person’s grind and their beliefs.
RESPECT.: Who can you say is your mentor in this industry? Why?
The team. We definitely work together and they encourage me to keep going. Also my mother because she is always with me and guiding me in the right direction.
RESPECT.: What can we expect on this album? Any special guests?
Expect the unexpected, I love music no matter what genre. My project will definitely show my growth and another side of me.
