RESPECT.: You’re a dope rapper. Would you give the credit to just being from New York itself?
Yeah, I get a lot of inspiration just from being here. I always been in love with music since I was young and I’ve always been someone who expresses themselves well.
RESPECT.:When you first started music what were you expressing originally?
At first I was just making things rhyme it wasn’t until I started getting older and experiencing stuff that I wanted to express in the songs. I was starting to see artists that had a past like mine is doing the same thing and they had a story to tell. As I got older I started telling my story.
RESPECT.:Can you share some of your story with us?
I am the youngest out of 5 boys and one of my brothers were murdered when I was 9 years old. He was only 20. When I was younger my mother had my me and my brother in a shelter. My father did heroin for a lot of years. Drugs broke up their relationship. Later on, I experienced a lot of my friends get murdered. I did a lot of things I wasn’t proud of but I did what I had to do to survive. Every song paints a picture and gives things some people can relate to.
RESPECT.:What are your musical influences?
Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Rakim. A lot of artists that came out in the 90’s. 90’s had the dopest artists. I am very influenced by artists out now and out before.
RESPECT.: I checked out your “Blue Laces Freestyle.”
Thank you, how did you like it? The Nipsey situation really bothered me. I look at Nipsey as the new generation Jay-Z. He was independent and didn’t ask for any hand-outs. He just stuck out. I learned from him to never quit and don’t stop. He was a big inspiration to me and I listened to his music constantly and “Blue Laces” was one of his hits and I liked the beat.
RESPECT.: In what ways did you see yourself in him?
He had a story thata lot of people in urban communities can relate to. A lot of let downs and set backs.
RESPECT.:You recently dropped a single called “No More.”
Yes that was an anthem!
RESPECT.: Yes, an anthem about making your way from nothing and turning it into something.
Right!
RESPECT.:I want to know what being wealthy means to you.
Wealthy is in the heart. You can have money and be unhappy still. Being wealthy is your heart! Being pure, being very wise, and being able to help people. Wealthy is having a big heart and giving unconditional love even when it is not being given back.
RESPECT.: When you do have the money you dream of what do you see yourself doing with it? I’m looking at the cover art and there is just a watch floating in the air. It makes me wonder what kind of person are you going to be.
Right, it is a metaphor. It is a black hand of course. I think a lot of people feel when you get a Rolex or a certain watch or chain that it equates to success.
RESPECT.:Do you have plans of giving back to your community?
Absolutely! I always wanted to open up a clothing line store. The blueprint Nipsey had I really plan to follow.
RESPECT.: Aside from the new track what’s next?
I will be in LA this month for a performance during the BET awards and I have an EP on the way this summer. This entire summer I will be working releasing a lot of content and participating in shows.
