New York’s Flexx Lugar is out making a name for himself. He is currently promoting his album Trap Star. Get to know him more by checking out his interview with us.
RESPECT.: What does it mean to be a trap star?
I call myself a trap star because I started making music in the trap. I didn’t have much, just a Bluetooth mic and my laptop. The star part is because my fans treat me like a star because of my career success.
RESPECT.: Who are your influences in music?
My top 3 influences are Jay-Z, Jadakiss, and 2pac. I don’t even think I would have started rapping if it wasn’t for them, 3 people.
RESPECT.: What keeps you doing music?
I just have a passion for music. I love to create new songs and love writing. it takes the mind off all the things going on in my personal life.
RESPECT.: Why do you go by flexx lugar?
I used to be called Lambo but it was too generic, it was hard for people to search for me so I changed my name to Flexx Lugar because my record label was already called Flexxmob.
RESPECT.: What is one thing you’ve learned so far from being in the music industry?
One thing I learned for sure is to make sure your business is in order. People will really try to take advantage of you if you don’t know the business. especially in the music industry. So, I make sure I stay up to date on what’s happening now and compare to my knowledge of what I have seen happen in the past.
RESPECT.: Who is your dream collab?
My dream collab would be with Jay-Z because he set the example for young black men that come from the hood. He showed us that you can make it if you have ambition and drive.
RESPECT.: NY or LA and why?
NY because its the city of dreams. it’s the grind state. There is a lot of opportunity in NY far as music, more labels, managers, and executives.
RESPECT.: What are you hoping to accomplish by the end of the year?
I’m hoping to reach a wider fan base and to get signed to a major label. I just signed a management deal with Ruby Recordings in February and already I have been seeing a lot of progress. With a strong and dedicated team, I’m pretty sure by the end of the year I will definitely accomplish my goal.
