Outlandish music artist MelFigure is using his persona to shake up the music industry. Known for his high energy and unique style, he relies heavy on his original lyrics to resonate with the masses. His Houston, Texas upbringing and popularity in high school gave him the courage to embark on a career as a solo artist.
I caught up with the Atlanta native for a quick interview below. As he candidly discusses his spirituality, creative process and releasing new material, his desire for success is prevalent.
MelFigure Interview
Respect: Where do you pull influence from when creating music?
Figure: When creating music I am influenced by my different spiritual beliefs. I have a strong connection with the vibes of the universe, as I am really big on signs given by the universe. I take those signs I receive and turn it into sound/music.
Respect: How has your upbringing influenced your original sound?
Figure: Coming up, I have always had a very diverse group of friends which I feel like inspires my range of genres. Also around the age of 14, I moved to Texas and met a group of friends. It was 8 of us. We started going by the name ‘ FLESH’ which stands for free soul and mind. This too played a role into my free spirit ways.
Respect: How would you best describe your unique style?
Figure: If I had to use one word to describe my style/sound it would be “outlandish”, which for me means outside of earth’s natural/normal force.
Respect: What was the inspiration behind your Jaguar Induction project?
Figure: My inspiration for Jaguar Induction came from the birth of my raging spirit side. This side of me was given the name jaguar, which is my spirt animal. Around the age of 17, I came up with my name ‘MelFigure’ which stands for 2 minded action figure.
I came up with that name because I have 2 sides to me. I have a chill side that I describe as my island boy side, and then I have my outrageous side, “jaguar”. This was the main spirit of my album. Jaguar Induction was a side of me that I’ve been hiding for years. It’s the side I used as an outlet for unexpressed emotions.
Respect: When can we expect new material from you?
Figure: You can expect new music anytime within the next 3 months.
