Actress, Influencer and Shiseido ambassador Jamie Chung, is using her platform to cultivate her influence on the beauty industry. Having recently traveled to Japan with the beauty giant, Chung was able to see first hand the creative process behind some of her favorite skincare products.
This experience not only gave her a unique prospective on the influence of Japanese beauty culture, but it also showed her the impact that the brand is having on the world.
I caught up with the beauty for a quick interview, as she attended Shiseido’s 2nd annual Beach House Party in Malibu. She candidly discusses being an ambassador, traveling to Japan and some of her favorite products from their newly launched Color Gel Lip Balm line. Check it out below.
Jamie Chung Interview
RESPECT: As an ambassador for Shiseido, what does your role consist of?
Jamie Chung: It consists of being totally honest with the products that I believe in and the things that I love. It is a brand that has been around for ages and it is scientifically based as they do extensive research. I just came back from a trip to Japan and when they launch out a new product, they put years into that research.
What was cool about this last trip was that I got to meet the scientists involved, and see what inspired them. I think essentially what Shiseido is about is that there is beauty in everything. By them being so meticulous, they focus on specificity and everything having a purpose and that is what I love about Shiseido.
To go back to your question of what does my role represent, it is a brand that my family and me have used for years, and it is something that I love. It is sharing the products that I believe in and the things I use on the daily basis, so it is very organic to be honest with you.
RESPECT: What were some of your favorite things from your Japan trip?
CHUNG: What I loved about that trip is that we went to Kyoto, which is where all of beauty originated in Japan. Even though Shiseido is a Tokyo brand, they wanted to go back to the roots of Japanese cultural beauty, which was the basis for this trip. It was so amazing especially since it was my first time in Kyoto.
What I loved about this trip was that they integrated all of these beauty editors and people in the business who knows what they are talking about, and what they are looking for, with all of the scientists that helped make these re-launched beautiful products.
It was kind of cool, as I have never been able to ask scientists questions. It was really neat to meet the CEO who is actively involved, their associates, all of their US brands and brand leaders from all over the world. Kyoto was an amazing global trip. What I loved about it was the fact that it was 99 percent all women, which was super powerful and relevant.
RESPECT: Since they have launched their Color Gel Lip Balm line, do you mind sharing some of your favorite products? Also which ones you would recommend to millennial?
CHUNG: I can tell you that I love the plum colors, as there are many bright and vibrant colors. What I love the most about the newly re-launched lipsticks is that they are super moisturizing and there is still great pigmentation but there are also certain colors that have a little bit more sheerness to them for everyday use. With these products, you get everything in one stick.
Shiseido will continue to be a leading pioneer in the beauty industry, with the help of boss lady Jamie Chung. Click here to learn more about the face of one of your favorite cosmetic lines.
