Make no mistake: whatever team is now handling the BET Awards have definitely stepped things up from over the past few several years. This go ’round, the big event was hosted by Regina Bell, who decided to give the crowd a taste of Washington, D.C. (her hometown) throughout (including a really dope opener, featuring Go-Go legends E.U.). Added to that, Cardi B, DaBaby, Lil Baby, H.E.R., Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Mary J. Blige (who performed for her own Lifetime Achievement Award) and more gave quality performances on stage, while notable winners speeches were peppered throughout. Finally, BET paid Nipsey Hussle a worthy tribute featuring some of his past collaborators and peers.
