JD Boyz teamed up with Fresh Jones to deliver a crazy project entitled Fresh Out Da Lot. In the project, they put together a body of work that includes bangers like “Expensive Taste” and “Habits.” As the JD Boyz are building up their buzz we land a dope conversation with them. Check it out below!
RESPECT.: Why did you guys leave Nigeria?
My family wanted better opportunity so America was the way.
RESPECT.: You would think being from Nigeria you’d be making into afro-beats music. How did you get into the rap world?
We moved here when we were 5 years old then we moved to Atlanta. We were just heavily influenced by our surroundings. It just grew from there and we fell for Jeezy and Gucci Mane. It transformed our culture and trap culture. They really changed the area.
RESPECT.: How long have you been living in Atlanta?
10 years
RESPECT.: Have y’all visited Nigeria lately?
Yeah we went last year.
RESPECT.: Was it weird being back?
No we still got different hustles out there we still tap in the culture.
RESPECT.: What does each member bring to the table?
I feel like one of us brings more energy and one is very much into the business side.
RESPECT.: So why did you name the project Fresh Out Da Lot?
A lot what we do is around the lot we own a car lot. On the project this is where we made all the songs. Our producer Fresh Jones.
RESPECT.: Is the studio on the lot?
Next door of the lot.
RESPECT.: From listening to the project you like the finer things in life. How important is money to you guys?
Not that important. We are blessed. Everything always turns out the way we want it. Music is more a passion thing than a money thing. Like my brother told you, we have multiple car lots and we always seek different business opportunities.
RESPECT.: From listening to the project habits was the hardest one on there what do you think?
All of them really. We treat them all the same. I think it’s the hardest one too. That’s dope you took the time to listen.
RESPECT.: What’s next?
Project coming out with Quay Global.
RESPECT.: How’d that come about?
We were out mixing and our producer fresh jones introduced us.
