This Friday is definitely noted for surprises and last-minute announcements, making for an unexpectedly dope weekend of new music:
2 Chainz – Rap Or Go To The League
I’m not sure if he gets all of his due credit, but 2 Chainz — aka the man formerly known as Tity Boi — has graduated from Ludacris‘ Disturbing The Peace and even Playaz Circle to become legendary, both as an Atlanta pillar and a Hip-Hop great overall.
Today, Chainz delivers his fifth studio album titled Rap Or Go To The League, which was apparently A&R’d by none other than Lebron James (as the promo leading up to the release detailed). The 14-track album sees additional appearances from Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, Marsha Ambrosius, Ariana Grande (I imagine her own recent issues with Hip-Hop led to this), Travis Scott, Young Thug and a lot more. The production is equally impressive: 9th Wonder and Pharrell Williams are just a couple of names that lent their beat-making skills to this project.

Little Simz – GREY Area
Following the well-received Stillness In Wonderland back in 2016, London’s Little Simz returns with her third official offering titled GREY Area, which sees her blending together a variety of genres (Hip-Hop, Soul, Grime, Pop, etc.). The project features 10 tracks (don’t get it twisted, there’s plenty packed into this songs) and features from Cleo Sol, Chronixx, Little Dragon and Michael Kiwanuka. Solange – When I Get Home
Leave it to one of the Knowles clan to make a profound statement both in and outside of the music. Earlier, Solange essentially brought everyone back to childhood by singlehandedly reviving BlackPlanet (she also utilized Mike Jones‘ legendary phone number), eventually revealing that a new album was set to arrive. Now, that album — titled When I Get Home — has made landfall.
The new project sees 19 tracks and features from fellow Houston natives to equally-creative peers: Devin the Dude, Scarface, Gucci Mane, Playboi Carti, The-Dream, Blood Orange, Sampha, Pharrell, Raphael Saadiq, Tyler, The Creator and more. Press play below.
DaBaby – Baby On Baby
North Carolina rising star DaBaby keeps his momentum going post-Blank Blank by delivers the new project Baby On Baby, a 12-track offering that sees additional assistance from Offset, Rich Homie Quan, Stunna 4 Vegas and Rich The Kid. Press play below.
Lil Skies – Shelby
Last but not least, Pennsylvania’s Lil Skies surprises everyone with his official debut album Shelby, named in honor of his mother. The project sees 14 tracks with appearances from Gucci Mane, Gunna and Landon Cube. In addition to the new project, Skies also delivered a new video for the opening track “i” (directed by Cole Bennett). Check it all out below.
