New York fashion designer and entrepreneur Mugzy Mcfly has put his dreams into reality with his thriving clothing brand Signed By Mcfly. With the new year under way, he is working on creating more amazing material while maintaining his authentic, creative, vision.
I caught up with him in a short question and answer, in which he discusses his plans for 2019, how New York has influenced him creatively, and the relationship between fashion and hip hop.
Check it out below!
Respect: Who is Mcfly?
Mcfly: Mcfly is a creator. Someone who aims to escape from the norm & change the world.
Respect: What made you found your own clothing line?
Mcfly: Long story short I honestly just wanted to wear whatever I wanted to, to work & here I am. I grew interested in clothing after being a poster boy for another brand, eventually I branched off I started my own.
Respect: What makes your brand unique?
Mcfly: It is raw, like cocaine no middle man. I’m the culture. This is it. I’m the people. They are me. We are it.
Respect: How has being from New York influenced your goals and dreams?
Mcfly: NY is the capital. It makes me believe that I am lucky, & the numbers are in my favor. I also believe that my style is impeccable because I am from here.
Respect: How does fashion directly correlate with hip-hop?
Mcfly: Artist in Hip Hop are our heroes so they are the backbone of the culture. So they possibly have the most influence on fashion trends.
Respect: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Mcfly: Worldwide. I want my brand in places like Tokyo and Dubai. I want myself creating outside of just clothing.
Respect: Do you have any major things in the works for 2019?
Mcfly: I’m working on building a platform for independent brands; maybe a storefront where creators can connect to the people directly.
