There is a certain something about Skye Morales and we can’t put our finger on it just yet. The 19-year-old beauty based in Atlanta, Georgia is making a lot of noise especially now that her debut EP Free is finally out. It was no surprise the songstress exceeded expectations with the 4-track effort which includes her hit single “New One.” Check out our interview with her below and stream the body of work.
RESPECT.: Hey Skye how’ it going? Let’s talk about your Free EP. How do you feel now that it is out?
I honestly feel so excited and I am so happy that it is finally out.
RESPECT.: I noticed you enjoyed yourself at the release party.
Yeah it was really crazy and it was really good. It was very emotional for me.
RESPECT.: What exactly made it emotional?
More like I can’t believe it. This is my first project.
RESPECT.: So, take us behind the meaning of the project?
It is all about feeling trapped sometimes. it’s all about knowing that in the end you can be free and you’ll soon be out of the cocoon.
RESPECT.: Is this a relationship cocoon situation?
Actually, it can be relationship or relationship with yourself.
RESPECT.: What’s the point you wanted to get across making this EP?
I really want listeners to know that I’m here, I feel you, and I’ve been there too.
RESPECT.: What are your biggest influences music?
George Benson, Bill Collins, Anita Baker, Aaliyah, and Lauryn Hill. I am really into the old school.
RESPECT.: What do you like about them?
They are all unique in the way they deliver the message.
RESPECT.: Would you say you’re following in their footsteps?
I’m definitely trying to follow in their footsteps. Especially longevity wise.
RESPECT.: How will you go about doing that?
Really staying true to myself. It is easy to get lost in the world we live in now.
RESPECT.: I noticed you dropped the “New One” video. How was that?
It was my first video and it was really fun. I also have another video on the way.
RESPECT.: What track is that for?
It is for my new song coming out called “Waiting.”
RESPECT.:What else do you have on the way and if you could wish on a star for 2019 what would you wish for?
Interviews, working, and looking forward to the next thing. My wish would be for more people to hear me because I have a story and a message that is so relatable. I don’t know, I think people will love it. I want to be inspirational and make people want to feel something.
