Mental health is one of the most talked about topics at hand in America nowadays. Walking hand in hand with that issue, is the US’ embarrassingly weird affinity with opioids and labeling them as, “medicine.” Like it or not, the two play a critical role in each other’s influence and it needs to be spoken about even more. One artist taking that’s taking the responsibility and doing this is ChiefDVB, who checks in with his enlightened new video for, “Drugz.”
Directed by buzzing cameraman AGoodBreak, “Drugz” follows Chief as he peddles through a Las Vegas suburban neighborhood, looking to locate the local dope-man. Throughout this journey, we are blessed to trippy residential shots, soundtracked by wavy production and self-aware lyricism from Chief.
With the video culminating in Chief finally finding the dealer — hilariously played by frequent collaborator Wave MMLZ — he then gets high and nods off before some perfectly placed information about addiction in America ends the video on the right note. With most of the video being in the perspective of somebody seeking drugs for enjoyment, it was very responsible of them to instead show the negative side effects of what that journey could bring back.
