As one of the originators of the “cult classic” Mighty Casey is in a very interesting place. Going the 90’s version of viral with his hit “White Girls,” Casey has been able to watch the game and his perspective evolve. With Dancehall music & culture sweeping across the mainstream the time was right for True Champion, featuring Trinidadian reggae star, Jah Bami, the first single off the 7 song Return Of The Rudebwoy EP off Dubshot Records.
After a good run with a lyric video, the Boston native hit the road to shoot the new version overseas. “I really wanted to capture the essence and energy of Carnival” says Casey, “and wanted to use London as a backdrop and focus on the Caribbean culture of London not only for the Notting Hill Carnival but for neighborhoods like Brixton and Hackney as well.”
