Iconic 90’s Hip-Hop group P.M. Dawn are sparking a lot of buzz, as they recently announced that they will be releasing new music sometime this year.
Known for their #1 hit singles “Set A Drift On Memory Lane” and “Die Without You,” they have experienced success, fame and hardship leading to their amazing return in 2018.
I had the pleasure of catching up with new member K.R.O.K. and OG Doc G…you can check out my quick Q&A session with them below.
RESPECT. Who is PM Dawn?
P.M. Dawn: P.M. Dawn is Doc G and K-R.O.K. (Kings Respect Other Kings).
What made you all decide to revamp the group?
After my dear paternal cousin and best friend Prince Be passed away Father’s Day weekend 2016, it broke my heart and soul. I will never heal from it, But K-R.O.K. was kind and offered condolences via Twitter, and then invited me to his amazing studio and here we are! I haven’t felt this musically alive since I was rocking with Prince Be!
For those that may not know, tell us the effect you guys had on the music industry.
We were one of the first to melodize Hip-Hop vocals; we were despised for it, however. I feel that P.M. Dawn paved the way for the current format like Plugs 1 and 2 did for us! Shout out to De La [Soul]!
How does it feel to know you all pioneered a genre of Hip-Hop way before the new school in 2018?
Why it’s blisstatically awesome! We also love the guys who are themselves and don’t apologize or respond when the older artists verbally attack out of jealousy. Our favorites are Dram, Lil Yachty, Kodak Black, also the group The Internet, but we listen to everything.
How big is it for you to receive your deserved respect for your accolades?
Everybody should respect everybody. It takes all that write and produce and get inspired to create Hip-Hop, but we’ve been on sleep mode for a while and we don’t mind earning the respect. We are P.M. Dawn, Prime Motivators Demolishing All Warriors Now baby!
What are you currently working on?
We are working on a new album and taking our time and having fun, [the album is] called Peanut Butter and Jelly!
When can we expect the album?
Hopefully in the next 2 months, it would be cool to release around November [or] December!
