They say sequels are never as good as the first one, but I tend to think that’s only in movies. In Hip-Hop, there’s nothing better than a series of albums that all fall under the same theme, but sound different sonically. Just look at the history, Lil’ Wayne with The Carter series, Hov with The Blueprint series & much much more. When fans cling to a project & bestow upon it cult like status, it could be hard for the artist to ignore. After releasing a solid first two chapters, Bay Area native RonnieMac returns with the third installment of his wildly popular, Weekend With Mac series.
Clocking in at a short, but very effective 8 tracks, Weekend With Mac 3 is without a doubt my favorite one in the trilogy. While the first two saw Mac giving off great potential, 3 sees Mac starting to build on those qualities that made him a prospect to watch. On, “Gucci Belt,” Ronnie displays his creative shit talking ability, while on, “Graduated,” he shows his storytelling ability, giving us the tale of being a rapper who’s also trying — and succeeded — to get his degree.
Other standouts on the project include, “Feelin’ Like (Woah),” a Jordan Smooth assisted, bouncy banger; “Go So,” which probably has the best production on the tape & “Baby Bro Going Krazy,” which sees Mac & his little brother, MariiGoKrazy foing back and forth over ambient, yet slightly ambitious production.
Check out, Weekend With Mac 3 now & be sure to keep an eye on RonnieMac.
