Artist and producer Gwen Bunn is only 25 years old and already has so much success under her belt. The very busy Decatur, Georgia native is best known for being nominated for a Grammy with rap super-star Kendrick Lamar. Day by day her producer credits are growing and so is her fan base. She recently dropped a project entitled Safe Travels and it’s safe to say she’s killing it in not only production but as an artist as well. We recently caught up with her for a wonderful interview. Check it out below!
RESPECT.: For those that don’t already know, who is Gwen Bunn?
I’m an artist and producer from Decatur, Georgia and I specialize in R&B. I do everything really. I work in whatever genre and I work with different types of artists. It’s a melting pot of different things that I’m doing. I’m a songwriter as well and I’ve done stuff for Ty Dolla $ign, Donald Glover, and many others.
RESPECT.: I listened to your project safe travels. Tell us about it!
That was really something for the fans. I did it in a 2-week span and I just wanted to put something together really quick. The songs were a mix of unfinished and finished songs. There were 2 songs already done so I just built from that. I really just wanted to take advantage. It has been a long journey for my core fans so I was like let me just give ya’ll something to hold ya’ll over. I’ve gotten as far as I’ve gotten without putting much content out so that’s a blessing. It was something to show appreciation.
RESPECT.: Is there a meaning behind Safe Travels?
Oh definitely! it’s about taking a journey as far as the music goes sonically and conceptually as well. There’s a lot of ups and downs and a lot of different dynamics throughout the project. I want to take the people on a journey really quick.
RESPECT.: Describe your sound for those that haven’t heard your music yet.
It’s the future really. Progressive everything. Progressive rap, hip-hop, jazz, soul, and folk. Any genre that is already there I’m trying to push that forward. Anything you hear from me is going to be the future.
