RESPECT.: Where are you from?
I am from Atlanta, Georgia. East side to be exact.
RESPECT.: When you first started doing music, were you nervous to drop?
You can’t be fearful of being in your own lane and being different. I never cared about the judgement of others because I have respect from a lot of people. I have the freedom to do what I want to. Only the real people matter. I never cared what people thought of me. I grew up being the kid with big clothes, glasses, and really nerdy looking. People were like who is this? But I gave them myself. When you’re trying to be someone else that’s when people will try to do anything to you.
RESPECT.: Your single “Do Better” is charting on Billboard. How does that feel?
I never in my life been on Billboard. For me to be independent and able to say did it by myself is crazy.
When you shared the news, you also thanked your team? How important is it to have a team?
Very important. The right team is a team of genuine people. You can’t just put someone on because it is their job. You really have to find the right people. You really have to sit down and talk to people and really see where their head is at.
RESPECT.: “Do Better” is a special record. How did it come about?
I made it for a friend. Me and her never had relations. We are just cool. She was getting beat up by her boyfriend. She was getting beat up by him and thrown out the house. All because he couldn’t control her how he wanted to. I used to talk to her all the time and would get to the point of saying I don’t know what else to tell you. I made the song for her and I sent it to her. After I sent it to her I started seeing a change in her and saw her starting to do her own thing. It worked for her so then I sent it to one of my homeboys and he loved the song. He told me to put it out but I was trying to put out another song. I trusted his judgment so much I said alright let’s put it out. So, I put it out in February and we dropped valentine’s day. After that it went crazy and I started getting DM’s from girls that were getting abused. I saw pictures of black eyes and some girls had staples in their head. It changed my outlook on domestic violence and it changed my whole outlook on women. The amount of DM’s from people and the things they say are so heartwarming. I try to read as much as I can.
RESPECT.: I feel like every rapper seeks to change someone’s life through music. It is amazing how you’re at the beginning of your career and already making such a huge impact! Do you have a project on the way?
It is really just the beginning and yea I have a project on the way. We are stuck between to titles Heart Cold and No Love Lost.
RESPECT.: What title are you leaning towards more?
Heart Cold because of all the experiences in life. From my mother leaving me to people turning their back on me. Also, majority of my family passing on me. I just feel numb and cold. The other day I wrecked my car and said oh well. It didn’t even hurt me. No Love Lost is super big too because a lot of people turn their backs. We’ll have a final decision in a couple days because we are dropping the project soon. We are thinking late September early October.
