Capo 2G is a rising music artist from Nigeria that recently dropped his music video for “Pull Up” featuring Kirko Bangz. It is only a matter of time before this artist’s music is in everyone’s rotation at ever party and club. His music has been moving strictly off of building connections and no major marketing. As a result of this, he is winning off the strength of flat out quality and fun music. Check out the conversation we had with him below.
RESPECT.: For those that don’t already know, who is Capo 2G?
My name is Capo 2G. I am an international artist from Nigeria and my genre is Afrobeatz.
RESPECT.: Have you always been into that genre?
I actually started rapping about 10 years ago and at that point the genre was damn near nonexistent. On the global front, it was very small and in Africa all we knew was hip-hop. With the change and the new direction, I went back to my roots and started doing the genre.
RESPECT.: Where are you living now and when did you leave Nigeria?
I live in Las Vegas and I moved from Nigeria when I was 10 years old then I moved to London. Then I went to school out there for like 5 years then I moved to the US. I’ve been in the US ever since.
RESPECT.: African families are often strict, does the area have a music scene and is your family into hip-hop?
Yes and for my family, we grew up on hip-hop. African parents nowadays definitely support it.
RESPECT.: Is Pull Up your most recent single?
My 2 most recent singles are pull up and I have an Afrobeatz one called Wagbayi. Pull up is more on the American wave and has a reggaeton club feel and sound to it. I features Kirko Bangz.
RESPECT.: what was it like working with Kirko?
Kirko is really dope we actually have a tour coming out. We are going to be on tour in a month and we have about 20 dates so far. He’s cool and he’s really dope and talented.
RESPECT.: What else is on the way?
I have an EP I am working on and it should have about 7 songs on it and it is going to be titled LL2G for ladies’ love 2G.
