Marketing is Hip-Hop’s most underrated savant. I can’t tell you how many times a situation has been manipulated and calculated perfectly so that America embraces a certain artist at a certain time, creating random, “buzz.” My favorite trick, though, is when a particular artist quietly puts his homie on throughout the journey, almost leaving an Easter egg trail to the inevitable.
We’ve seen it most recently without Lil’ Baby, who has been a figure in the Atlanta scene for years without ever releasing a record & the moment he decided to press go, Hip-Hop immediately embraced him.
Another artist who’s in the midst of this is Detroit native Silent. After providing show-stopping verses on multiple Richie Bux records and creating a mystique, he checks in with us to release his brand new video, “Shooters,” which will most likely serve as his catapult into the game.
Directed by Roskopp, the video follows Silent & crew around the cut of Las Vegas as Si let’s off melodically driven bars about people’s inability to be real with themselves. Set to the tone of energetic, yet not overbearing production, “Shooters” sets the table perfectly for Silent to eat, introducing his signature nasal tone to the masses.
We briefly caught up with Si to discuss the making of the video, as well as an indication on where his sound will go next. Read below!
RESPECT. Magazine: Where did the idea for the video come about?
Silent: “Shooters” was inspired by Chief Keef’s “I don’t like” and Tee Grizzley’s “First Day out” videos. My director, Roskopp had a vision, so him and I went out and brought it to life.
RESPECT.: Is this a sound that you’ll be exploring more on an upcoming project? What’s next for you?
Silent: The song “Shooters” is definitely a sound I will continue to make. But only one of the many styles I explored on my new upcoming EP called “Finding Myself”. Which will be dropping sooner than expected. As far as my next move, I rather walk the walk then talk the talk but a lot of visuals and music is on the way.
Check out the new visuals for, “Shooters” below and be sure to keep an eye on Silent.
