Brandy’s second album, Never Say Never, came out 20 years ago today. The classic album has been in rotation for decades to come. I know you all remember the visual “The Boy is Mine” segment between her and Monica. Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins and his team produced the whole album. She talked about love, media, and maturity. This album was a heavy ballad, adult contemporary with a twist of urban pop to it.
This album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard charts. We know you know the singles off this classic album; for instance: “Top of the World” featuring Mase, which was an international hit, also “Top of the World” and “Have You Ever” were No. 1 hits during that time. The album sold over 16 million worldwide. One of the top records, “The Boy is Mine,” won a Grammy Award for R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
