Dancehall diva Spice flew home for the long weekend to for the official launch of her nonprofit aimed at enriching women’s lives through education and entrepreneurial endeavors. This inaugural event for the Grace Hamilton Women Empowerment Foundation represents the first of many occasions where she can give back directly to individuals in the community. The VH1’s Love and Hip Hop Atlanta star even presented a check to a young woman for her college education.
The event took place at Eden Gardens, and Spice got emotional when recounting the story of receiving an email from Abbygale, the recipient of the ample $300,000 scholarship. The songstress reminded the audience that she too endured hardships growing up and that pain gave her the strength to carry on and get to the place where she could now give back, and that brought tears to her eyes. In follow-up, according to the Instagram account of Spice, the high school honoree would indeed be attending UTech in the fall.
Spice is a star in the Caribbean, and her status in the states is on the rise. She became the first Jamaican female to hit one million followers on Instagram earlier this year and recently dropped several hit singles including “Dufflebag” and “Gum” among others. Now more than ever she is in a position to influence impressionable minds on an international scale.
