Jersey-bred, L.A.-based breakout star Skinnyfromthe9 doesn’t want to go back to being broke, but reminisces about the hardships he faced during childhood on his latest track, “Back When I Was Broke,” and how he is now making his dreams turn to wealth. Skinny’s new visual to accompany the track comes right before Summer as an anthem for those who know the beauty of stunting on those who doubted you before your hard work paid off.
Said the artist on the new single:
“This song is motivation for everybody. You can do anything you set your mind to… If you dream it you can do it. I’ve been through it all in my childhood. My life gradually got better starting in middle school. Before that I was broke, homeless, poor you name it. Once I started getting fame and money anyone whoever laughed at me or doubted me, wanted to be my friend. I told them what was gonna happen and it’s happening. I freestyled this song and it was made an hour.”
Fellow rapper Wiz Khalifa and Russ appear in this carefree, in your face video directed by Upstate Groove Productions. It’s also a follow up to the highly-successful video drop for “Love Blast,” which amassed over 400K YouTube views in a matter of days (and currently has over 5 million SoundCloud plays and 2 million Spotify streams).
