Because why not? Tomorrow (May 25th), Pusha T will reveal his new album Daytona, the first of many to come from a month-long G.O.O.D. Music takeover and Pusha’s first release since 2015’s King Push – Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude. While he’s released a few head nodders since (ex. “Drug Dealers Anonymous” with Jay-Z, “Circles” alongside Ty Dolla $ign and Desiigner), the apparent clean slate we’re about to hear sounds as if it’ll be the most amazing body of work we’ve ever heard from the VA emcee thus far.
In celebration of (and since I’ve been playing nothing but his music and features all week), I’d like to share my five favorite tracks/verses from Pusha T for you to enjoy (or not, all of these are surely debatable). So, without further adieu…
“So Appalled” (w/ Kanye West, Jay-Z, Swizz Beatz, RZA and Cyhi The Prynce)
“…I speak the gospel, hostile
Tony doing time for what he did to nostrils
Paranoid mind, I’m still under the watchful
Eye of the law, aspire for more
Them kilos came, we gave you Bobby Brown jaw
Flaws ain’t flaws when it’s you that makes the call
Flow similar to the legends of the falls
Spill it, I own you all, yeah”
“Trouble On My Mind” (w/ Tyler, The Creator)
“It’s the blackout, ‘Rari got the back out
Showing my black ass, engine in the glass house
Started in the crack house, Obama went the back route
Kill bin Laden, ‘nother four up in the black house
Still got the Macs out, pull the mask down like a mascot
Still trick with bitches, out with money or with ass shots
GOOD had room for one more, I took the last spot…”
“Nosetalgia” (w/ Kendrick Lamar)
“Twenty-plus years of selling Johnson & Johnson
I started out as a baby-faced monster
No wonder there’s diaper rash on my conscience
My teething ring was numbed by the nonsense
Gem Star razor and a dinner plate
Arm & Hammer and a Mason jar, that’s my dinner date
Then crack the window in the kitchen, let it ventilate
‘Cause I let it sizzle on the stove like a minute steak…”
“Virginia” (as Clipse w/ No Malice)
“In my “Home Sweet Home” I keep chrome next to my bones
Alters my walk to limpin’
Since I love the feel, I guess I’m passionately pimpin’
It ’tis what it seems
That thing imprintin’ through the seams of my jeans, by all means
Lost it all, from lives to love
But my faith and my money helped me rise above
See I turned to the Lord when them times got tough
Bullied through streets, powder I pushed and shoved…”
“Mr. Me Too” (as Clipse w/ No Malice)
“…Chill retardo, South Beach Gallardo
Teals started up, go brr like it’s Nardo
Women, if you love me, please let me know
Tie rags around your neck and learn the sets we throw
These are the days of our lives and I’m sorry to the fans
But the crackers weren’t playin’ fair at Jive”
