Toni Romiti has been on the scene for a minute! Following the release of her latest EP, Tomboy, we caught up with the talented star and talked about the definition of Tomboy, what it is like working with DC Young Fly and her growth from her previous projects to now. Check it out below.
RESPECT.: Tell us your definition of what the EP means.
Tomboy is for sporty and dominant girls. It shines lights on different topics no matter what type gender you are. It mainly focuses on women, who can do anything that a man can do, but better.
RESPECT.: What is your favorite song off of the album? Why?
I don’t have a favorite song because all of them are my favorites. If I had a favorite it would be “Where” or “Girls or Boys.” All of them have an R&B with an up tempo type vibe.
RESPECT.: I see you have a single with DC Young Fly, is he the same goofy self in the studio or is he about his business when he’s making music?
He is serious but always himself at the same time. He is also about his business. He is such a sweet person all around.
RESPECT.: From Lemonade, Just Like You to now Tomboy, what can you say from the years that changed your artistry over the three projects?
By my second project, it felt different. The 10 songs that were made and recorded; I had to start over because I want to perfect my craft. Just Like You gave me more respect in my music and as an artist overall.
RESPECT.: Who got you inspired into doing music? Why?
No one really inspired me as far as wanting to do music, it was something I just always knew I wanted to do. I used social media as a marketing tool to promote my music. Instagram was the first platform I used to promote my music. In high school, Vine started to get popular and that’s when things really took off for me. It was for promotion of my music and the “revine” button was the kicker. Back then if you revined my music, I would release my number to people and new music. I was also known as the “Bish Whet” girl.
RESPECT.: What’s next for Toni Romiti?
I will be traveling to London for a month to record and I’m excited to experience a new world and lifestyle and hopefully going on tour sometime this summer.
