Athlete turned rapper MSC Jay follows up his ambitious first single, the well-received “Mah Dawg,” with a remix featuring Yo Gotti’s artist Moneybagg Yo.
Hailing from the small town of St. Helena Island, with a population of about 8k, MSC Jay has made it his mission to put his hometown on the map, all the while repping for the island’s West African diaspora. St. Helena Island is the cultural hub of the Gullah/Geechie people, a distinctive culture that emerged after enslaved West Africans were forcibly brought to the area.
This isn’t Nelly’s country grammar — MSC Jay seamlessly fuses his country roots with the local Geechie culture, effectively pioneering a new sub-genre of rap that he calls “country geechie culture.”
