The eccentric, Bay Area-based emcee, Gark Mavigan, has collaborated with producers, singers, a children’s choir, beatboxers, violinists/cellists from across the globe, and even Isaiah Rashad’s tour artist, in creating his latest full length effort, Good Choices.
Indeed, some very good choices went into making this project. From a production standpoint, Gark carefully selected a broad range of styles, ranging from Boom bap, to funk, to chilled-out electronic and more, that are woven together with PSA soundbites from the ’80s. Lyrically, you can rely on the witty emcee to deliver a barrage of punchlines, as well as singular song concepts. Highlights include Gark’s collaboration with the Detroit Children’s Choir on “Picture Day,” a tea drinkers anthem (“Meryl Steep”), and Gark and Spongebob Squarepants tag-teaming on “I’m Ready,” the final track that uncovers the best choice he ever made.
Good Choices is available now through on all major digital retailers and streaming platforms, of which 100% of the net proceeds will be donated to two non-profits that provide a platform for emerging artists: Lyrical Opposition of SF, and With Our Words, Inc. of Stockton, CA.
