The annual SXSW music showcase took place last week [March 10th-18th] featuring a major and local acts from all over the world. RESPECT caught up with the Caribbean dance music sensation Konshens – who performed at the Revolt House showcase, Empire label Street Execs show, and featured on Pitchfork’s podcast.
Konshens recently dropped a single with Rick Ross from the upcoming sophomore album, “It Feel Good.” This of course contains nothing but reggae dancehall hits buzzing among industry insiders. Find out more about this artist and what he has coming next with his career within the interview below!
Q: As A Rising Artist, What Has Been The Highlights Of Career?
A: “My entire career has been a highlight. I didn’t really started inspiring to be an artist. I think getting up everyday doing music is a highlight for me.”
Q: How Do You Feel About The Caribbean Influence In Today’s American Market?
A: “I love it and I don’t think that it is new. Jamaican music has a whole in all has influenced the many worlds for years. All though we have the Drake‘s, and the Kendrick‘s, Justin Biebers; you hear it a lot more now. I’m a big fan of Drake. Caribbean music as whole – these artists put our culture on a big platform.”
Q: What Have You Been Involved In For SXSW?
A: “I have my label show, I’m signed to Empire. I’ve been with a lot of my label mates. I’ve been doing a whole lot, interviews, and networking.”
Q: What Do You Have Planned For The Rest Of 2018?
A: “Right now the focus is on the album, “It Feel Good.” We’re just pushing it to see how far we can take it. It’s releasing soon.”
