Recording artist Mello B recently caught our attention and we are positive he will catch yours as well. A few weeks back we discovered his newest music video “No Advice” on YouTube and we couldn’t help but notice his hard-hitting writing style and strikingly confident delivery. With his new project on the way and a buzz that is building by the day, he was able to take some time out of his hectic schedule for an interview. Check it out below!
RESPECT.: We know you’re from New Jersey but where exactly?
I was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey
RESPECT.: What was it like growing up there and how old are you now?
I am 20 now and A lot has happened there growing up but you live and you learn. Well there was a lot of living and learning let’s put it like that.
RESPECT.: When did you decide you wanted to really do this music thing?
Honestly, I’ve been doing music since I was a kid. As far as I can remember. I started recording music when I was like 13. After that, in high school and middle school I was really taking it serious. In high school, I was in the studio after school every day. Every year I was dropping music consistently and every year I was dropping tapes. When I was 17 I dropped like two tapes.
RESPECT.: How were the kids responding to your music when they found out about it?
Everybody showed mad love. After the first one people started giving me their input. It’s like the more consistent I was the more attracted people became.
RESPECT.: So, when you were 13 dropping music, what were you talking about in those songs?
I was talking about what I was going through at the time.
RESPECT.: Would you say you were really rebellious growing up?
Yeah, I would. I was doing whatever I wanted to do. Especially music because I was out every night staying up till morning time and missing out on sleep to make music. A lot of my friends had a crib they had studios in. When the kids were in school doing whatever I was about making music.
RESPECT.: Speaking of being rebellious, give us some details of your recent music video “No Advice.” What does that track mean to you?
It’s crazy because that song means a lot to me honestly. The song is so special to me because I recently made it. I tell people this all the time, I really don’t rap just to rap. I rap what I go through and what I’m inspired by. I am the type of person that doesn’t want advice from anyone. My man cooked up the beat and that was the first thing that came to my mind.
RESPECT.: For those that want to go back and check out your music what can people expect?
Honestly when you hear my music just expect something different. Definitely expect good and quality music. I’m definitely one of those artist that takes it there in every song. Expect the unexpected. I’m a very diverse artist. I rap, I sing, expect real. Expect a feeling and a vibe. If you don’t like it lyrically, you’re going to like the flow. If you don’t like the flow, you’re going to like the beat. If you don’t like the beat you’re going to like something about the song. I try to make everybody happy.
RESPECT.: What are some details you can give about your upcoming project?
The project is called ‘No Filter’ and I can’t give the date but expect it very soon!
