As Stormzy continues to craft chart-topping albums and singles, it’s always good to remember what got him there in the first place: the unrelenting freestyles that left his crew in awe at the park, as well as his peers in the studio. That’s why it’s dope to see the South London emcee’s latest — a stripped down freestyle over Drake‘s “4PM In Calabasas.” Needless to say, the bars are still razor sharp (not that they weren’t on Gang Signs & Prayer):
It’s the major that the majors wanna sign
They used to pay me for my poppy now they pay me for my rhymes
And most these older rappers hate me on the sly
‘Cause we achieved the same things but it just took me half the time
Let’s tell the truth
I don’t plan on running out of juice
N***as tryna pose like they represent the youth
I double up the tints, they got me blacking out the coupe
And nothing was the same since my Fire in the Booth
Shit, look at me now, they saying that I’m the golden child
Can’t nobody hold me down
Ay, oi trust me, I feel the same
Check out the four-and-a-half-minute lyrical exercise above. Definitely looking forward to that second album he rapped about at the end.
