There’s no question that Russ is headed in the right direction solidifying his spot in the industry right now. After a show he had on 9/11, the Roswell, Georgia rapper wore a shirt with a message that received a ton of backlash from artists and fans of hip hop. Some would say that Russ was just trying to spread a positive message in response to the heavy drug usage within the hip hop culture, but it’s clear that many people weren’t receptive to this message the way we all would hope they’d be. In response to the backlash, Russ teams up with legendary hit-maker Scott Storch to drop off “Think Twice.”
Russ recently visited Complex’s Everyday Struggle show and had some words with co-host Nadeska Alexis. Joe Budden, another host on the show, wasn’t present, but when he returned he challenged Russ to come back and “try that sh*t” when Joe was around. With this in mind, Russ takes some shots at the New York rapper in his opening lines: “This ain’t no average Joe shit, this is everyday Russell/Joe got a day job, that’s an everyday struggle.”
Hopefully the controversy doesn’t continue to overshadow the obvious quality of his music or his message, as he’s a solid enough rapper when motivated, and he really does seem to care about helping kids stay away from substance abuse.
