Yesterday has to be one of the better album release days for Hip-Hop this year, (in part) thanks to Action Bronson, A$AP Mob, Lil Uzi Vert and more. The surprising standout (at least for us) came from Floridian star XXXTentacion, who rose from incarcerated obscurity to become one of music’s brightest this year. His new album 17 is a far cry from XXX’s breakout single “Look At Me” — it’s an emotional rollercoaster contained of different genres, all kept together by XXX’s ever-changing lyricism and Aaron Lewis-esque harmonics.
One listen of the short project (the 11-track offering clocks in at a lean 22 minutes) has you in absolute awe of this kid’s talent, even in the midst of his alleged past transgressions. His peers agree, which is the point of this post: below lies a lot of the response received from the culture — and outside the culture — in regards to 17, which leads us to believe that XXXTentacion isn’t going anywhere for a while. If you missed it, you can stream the album here.
