Sisqo is taking us back to 1999 by teaming up with JCY for a revamp of his hit “Thong Song.”
The 2017 EDM version gives a nod to the original by featuring a bevy of beauties on the beach but also incorporates a different flare by adding a dance scene on a neon lit dance floor, ladies in the skating rink and more, Sisqo even tones down the vocal runs amidst the drops.
In an interview with Buzz Feed, Sisqo explains why he decided to do the remake of his smash hit after turning down so many other requests.
“I’ve been asked so many times over the years to make a new version of ‘Thong Song,’ and I have declined every time until I heard the new version that JCY did. I thought it was dope and figured maybe it was time to put some new rims on the Bugatti.”
No don’t expect Sisqo to reenact his infamous scene of running over a sea of women, but you can see the former Dru Hill front man is still rocking the dance moves.
During an interview with Rolling Stone in 2014, Sisqo explained why he felt the infectious song will never go out of style.
“Every time I perform that song, as soon as those first strings start, everybody jumps into the time machine and goes back to the fun they had back then and the crowd still goes nuts. Instead of getting downplayed, it’s getting bigger with each year.”
Sisqo released the “Thong Song” on New Year’s Eve in 1999, the single went on to reach the #3 spot on the Billboard Charts.
