Lord Francis shines through anonymity with “Under Lord.” As his freshman effort, “Under Lord” is Francis’ in-the-shadows take on trap-like narratives and digital Noir & B. While DC’s stake in music real estate is quantifiably on the rise, Lord Francis adds to it an imaginative merging of sultry street refrain with the energetic nature and bounce of hardcore Hip-Hop. “No Secret” acts as a tone setting intro; a foray into his canny disposition as a rhymer. Cuts like “Champagne Flutes” and “Pegasus” follow the intro’s dynamic paradigm while tracks like “Every Single Time,” “301 Girls,” and “Stay Up” maintain a level of intrinsic and explicit grit, simultaneously displaying the softer and harmonious side to Lord Francis’ craft. Most impressively the project is fueled by dimensional layers of the spectrum both creatively and personally. Rhymes, melodies, adversity, and a finely tuned ear for the abstract, UL is a conceptual piece for the streets and the heart symbiotically. 12-cuts deep, the project is a continuous pendulum of artistic exploration and yet another flawless epitomizing of culture in the District of Columbia. Time for the lord to step into the light.
